Middletown vs. Maloney preview

I’m going back to Falcon Field in Meriden tonight, hopefully I don’t get lost again.

Two weeks ago I was there for Rocky Hill vs. Platt, which was supposed to be one of the best games of the week…it was not. Platt and Tyzhan Leatherwood beat Rocky Hill 47-14 to cement their place as one of the top teams in the CCC Division III. This weeks game does not live up to the hype of that one, but one of the top players in Connecticut is set to put on a show.

On October 4, I drove all the way up to Enfield to watch Middletown stomp Fermi 43-8. Dario Highsmith went nuts and he only played the first half (140 yards and 3 TD’s). He threw an interception, but it didn’t hurt the team. The entire second half, the Blue Dragons younger guys got a chance to play and prove what they have for the team and I don’t expect much different tonight.

Last week Highsmith rushed for 346 yards and two touchdowns while throwing five times completing all of them for two more scores, I don’t expect anything different tonight. Maloney knows he is the guy to stop, but they won’t be able to. Middletown has scored 242 points this season (Most in the CCC) an average of 40.3 per game and their defense has allowed just 50 points (8.3/game).

I can see this game being over after the first quarter, just like at Fermi. Middletown will score all their points in the first half and let the defense do the work in the second half. Highsmith will run for 200 yards, 3 TD’s and throw for 2 more. Middletown beats Maloney tonight 42-0 setting up an undefeated Division II West clash with Farmington next week.
